Wal-Mart Holds Food Drive For Its Hungry Employees

walmartWal-Mart tries to show its concern for some of society’s most vulnerable and deprived: Wal-Mart workers. What seems like an Onion story come to life, reported via Cleveland.com:

It’s a food drive – not for the community, but for needy workers. “Please Donate Food Items Here, so Associates in Need Can Enjoy Thanksgiving Dinner,” read signs affixed to the tablecloths at the Walmart on Atlantic Boulevard in Canton.

The food drive tables are tucked away in an employees-only area. Is the food drive proof the retailer pays so little that many employees can’t afford Thanksgiving dinner?

Kory Lundberg, a Walmart spokesman, said the food drive is proof that employees care about each other. “This is part of the company’s culture to rally around associates and take care of them when they face extreme hardships,” he said.

Bill Maher raises an interesting point on how raising the minimum wage could actually reduce socialism.

You need some form of socialism (Democratic council/Government) to even regulate a minimum wage in the first place.

But socialism leads to communism, so we just can’t have that, man.

        • McCarthyism! The Great Corporate American Propaganda Whore’s finest achievement! Folks still ‘Mesmerized” keep Castro’s name on the tip of their tongue, point to the failed Soviet Union, and fear China?
Canada a Social Democratic lesson? Scandinavia? Germany? Switzerland?

    • A “minimum wage” is socialism!

  2. These bastards are pretty much EVIL ENCARNATE and everyone knows it. That people continue shop there speaks volumes about how totally fucked up things have gotten.

Walmart employees get to have a Thanksgiving???

I thought the new two day sales event put the kibosh on all that “family togetherness” nonsense.

They’re modifying that old “it takes a village…” saying for corporate controlled America: ” It takes a corporation!” – Let the company be your family! Leave your kids at our daycare so we can start indoctrinating them into their roles as serfs that belong to the Corp. This was the goal all along when they started killing small business.

Yes, very true. My sister works for Walmart. She said that since no one has Thanksgiving off, the company is telling them that their lunch period is a time for giving “thanks” with their “Walmart family” and not to forget to bring an item for the “potluck”.

How soon until adoption forms are filled out and every employee becomes a “dependent” tax deduction?

That is some Orwellian shit right there. Your employer doesn’t pay you enough to keep you well feed, but is willing to run a food drive to feed you. Holy fucking shit.

  5. It’s so inspiring that Walmart set aside some space for its employees to donate food to its employees. We can all learn from this example.

I’m going to start by asking a homeless man if he has any spare change to help the homeless.

McDonald’s has one upped them, with the sagely advice of not complaining more than 10 min because it raises stress hormones by 15%, and to _sing_ their stress away. http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2013-11-20/mcdonalds-advice-employees-quit-complaining-and-sing-song

EVIL ENCARNATE, are you fucking kidding me?

    • Okay, sure there are worse evils, like the pentagon, the NSA, the US military, Kissinger, and the oil industry, but Walmart still looks pretty evil to me. Also, they are such a convenient poster child for the evils of corporate capitalism run amok.

  8. The fully “mesmerized” having a hard time swallowing the truth, propagating the lie, when it is their wallet that is empty? To you I say: Eat shit moron! Die for your inhumane nonsense. Go down with your heartfelt arsehole beliefs. Do not look beyond your blinkers. believe only NBC. Walk Tall knowing you stood up for what you know to be right and true. Never falter. Always, it is so patriotic. Can’t pay? Lie down like a ‘Good American” and die. Hungry? Eat your arrogance, your entitlement.
