Customs Officials Destroy Virtuoso Flautist’s Collection of Hand-Made Instruments

US Customs declared the bamboo instruments “agricultural products” and destroyed them. Feeling safer? Somewhere Ian Anderson weeps.

A flute virtuoso was returning to New York via John F. Kennedy Airport when Customs officials confiscated and destroyed the instruments he was carrying with him.

According to Boujemaa Razgui, the officials told him that his 11 flutes — each of which he had constructed, by hand, himself — “were agricultural products and had to be destroyed.”

Razgui, who is a Canadian citizen, frequently travels with a variety of flutes, each of which is designed to be played with a specific ancient or modern genre in mind.

Raw Story.

At the risk of offending someone who works for TSA or has a realative who works for this agency I offer my qualified assessment. They are not very bright. I travel 50 to 60 K a year and have come to the folowing conclusions. First: Because of the dismal job market and the availability of somewhat stable TSA fed jobs there has been an infusion of job applicants who have no real qualifications except that they sre able to spell their names correctly. Second: Unfortunatally, as we all know there are those who need their little power fixes. Third: it seems that most of these people actually believe the bullshit that they are making some sort of difference and keep us safe.

They are not particularly bright and they can also tell that nobody likes them.

I’d throw in a fourth: the people that work these jobs are specifically selected to be exactly what they are:

Below average to average intelligence, below average education, and rule followers. No matter how bad the job market is, they’re not going to hire someone with a doctorate in philosophy.

Same way they select cops. You want people who will show up, follow the rules, and not question what they’re asked to do.

Damn straight. Looks like he plays terrorist music. What kind of guy makes flutes anyway? Going to go listen to some Josh Groban.

Thank God this monster’s terror whistles are off the streets. Bet they weren’t even made of GM bamboo.

    Two words: Law + Suit.

  7. Unfortunately links to his music are illusive. I am a fan of the duduk, the Native American flute, and any other wind instruments. Drats!
