The NSA Plans on Infecting Millions of Computers With Malware: Here’s How

o-NSA-PHONE-RECORD-COLLECTION-facebookLike sketchy porn sites, faux internet contests and websites offering to clean your PC for free, the NSA hopes to infect millions of computers with malware. Glenn Greenwald’s The Intercept has the story. If you’re interested in NSA coverage, I recommend it.

Top-secret documents reveal that the National Security Agency is dramatically expanding its ability to covertly hack into computers on a mass scale by using automated systems that reduce the level of human oversight in the process.

The classified files – provided previously by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden – contain new details about groundbreaking surveillance technology the agency has developed to infect potentially millions of computers worldwide with malware “implants.” The clandestine initiative enables the NSA to break into targeted computers and to siphon out data from foreign Internet and phone networks.

The covert infrastructure that supports the hacking efforts operates from the agency’s headquarters in Fort Meade, Maryland, and from eavesdropping bases in the United Kingdom and Japan.

Idiot Hospitalized After Kissing Snapping Turtle on The Lips

Pic: Unknown

Pic: Unknown

Alligator snapping turtles are somewhat common where I live, and growing up I learned to leave the hell alone. Grown-ups warned me and my friends that they could snap through broomsticks and fingers with ease, and called them “thunder turtles” because the story went that they would bite and hold on until thunder struck. Unless you’ve seen one in the flesh it’s really hard to understand how enormous and intimidating they are. The one in the picture is tiny, relatively speaking. You’ve got to be stupid to bother these prehistoric-looking beasts. Enter this anonymous and now-hospitalized young man…

Via Daily Mail:

They’re called ‘snapping’ turtles for a very good reason, but this hapless animal lover just had to find out the hard way and ended up in hospital.

The Chinese man was reportedly releasing the ferocious-looking creature into the wild but decided he had to give it a goodbye kiss first.

‘Like Something Out of Mad Max': The Brutal Weapons of the Ukrainian Revolution

Photographer Tom Jamieson snapped a series of photos depicting the brutal DIY weapons wielded by Ukrainian protesters. Forget speaking truth to power. These guys are taking nail-studded clubs to power’s head. Fearsome stuff. WIRED has the scoop.

Via WIRED:

The protesters who filled Maidan Square to battle the Ukrainian army and topple President Yanukovych often fought with little more than sticks, bats and sledgehammers. Their nasty homemade weapons are the subject of a series of portraits by photographer Tom Jamieson, and show how determined protesters were to either damage or defend against government security forces, depending on your politics.

While other photographers scrambled to shoot the epic scenes playing out at the front line, Jamieson wandered the occupied zone asking to see what protesters were packing.

“Every single person without fail had a club or a bat or something like that,” says Jamieson. “You couldn’t help but notice the DIY nature of the whole thing, from the barricades themselves to the totally inadequate body armor that people were wearing, and the weapons as well.

Painful Discharge for Life: Get Ready for Gonorrhea That Never, Ever Goes Away

princ_rm_photo_of_gonorrhea_bacteriaRemember when gonorrhea and syphilis could be treated with a discreet visit to the local health clinic and a dose of penicillin? Well, those days are going to be over very soon. Antibiotic-resistant strains of gonorrhea are spreading among the sexually active, and the disease could soon become untreatable. If you don’t remember from junior high health class, gonorrhea symptoms include a white, yellow, or green discharge from the penis or vagina (or anus or throat), itching, and soreness. It can make both men and women sterile if left untreated. Oh! And a good percentage of men and women remain asymptomatic!

Via The Verge:

…penicillin and various tetracyclines have all stopped working against the most prevalent strains. This means that today’s gonorrhea patient has very few treatment options left. And with symptoms like burning, swelling of the testicles, vaginal discharge and anal itching, it’s not exactly something that you want to leave untreated.

Rory Viner Makes Music Out of Suicide, Rape and Murder Statistics

Pic: Rory Viner (C) Tokyo-based experimental artist and composer Rory Viner got in touch with us about his fascinating experiment in musical psychotopology:
"Using Japanese suicide statistics, I assigned each statistic point to a piano note. Each section of twelve notes encompasses a year of self-killings within a prefecture. I then did that for every prefecture, decontextualizing dry statistics and weaving them into a sonic map. I also created a sonic map for U.S. murder and rape rates, which may especially be of interest to your readers."
Here's Viner's "One Year in Suicide Statistics in Japan for Piano" And two other compositions...

Prototype Drone Can Shock You With 80,000 Volts

)

It’s called Cupid. Look for it in a sky near you.

Via Information Liberation:

Cupid was revealed at the SXSW Interactive Festival in Austin Texas as a concept for how security might be implemented in the future.

“The drone can be deployed when an alarm is triggered. It can find a subject and send live video to the owners phone and ask if you want to authorize the subject or detain them. If you detain them, it drops into fully autonomous mode to detain them until police arrive. If need be stunning them with 80,000 volts of electricity to render them incapacitated,” the firm said in a statement.
