Three New Ways the Koch Brothers Are Screwing America

koch brothers exposedUnfortunately three new ways that Charles and David Koch are screwing America hardly moves the needle compared to what they’re already up to, but regardless here they are courtesy of Rolling Stone:

“They are truly cowards in the worst way,” says filmmaker Robert Greenwald, of the notorious billionaires Charles and David Koch. And he should know. After he released his 2012 documentary, “The Koch Brothers Exposed,” Koch-funded organizations took out ads trying to discredit Greenwald and his work, yet the brothers still declined his repeated offers to debate the topics covered in the film, like the re-segregation of schools and the defanging of the EPA. “I wanted to engage in a policy debate,” he says. “But they won’t engage.”

For most people, an attack from the fourth-richest (and perhaps most politically conniving) men in America would slow them down. But instead Greenwald, who became interested in the powerful duo when he read Jane Mayer’s 2010 New Yorker profile, decided to double down, and began work on “The Koch Brothers Exposed: 2014 Edition.” The update, which is now available free online, is centered on their influence in (and outpouring of money since) the Citizens United Supreme Court decision. While researching and producing it with his small staff at Brave New Films, Greenwald says he was “surprised by not just the sheer numbers, but the extraordinary lengths they go to legally to hide the amounts they’re giving.” Here, three of the fights to which these undocumented millions flow:

Suppressing the Minimum Wage

Not only do the Koch brothers not want to raise the minimum wage – now a federal $7.25 – they say it creates a “culture of dependency” and would like to see it abolished altogether. “One of the facts I’ve been most struck by is that it would take a full-time minimum-wage earner 76 years to make $1.8 million,” says Greenwald. “Or, about what each Koch brother earns in an hour.” But bottom lines are more important than bottom workers for the Kochs – since the early 1990s, they’ve given at least $23.3 million to think tanks that have published over 4,000 articles, papers, studies, and media projects targeting the minimum wage. “They want to abolish the concept of minimum wage,” Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) said at the film’s D.C. premiere. “So people can work for free.”

Breaking Unions…

“no ants will eat at the hummingbird plot!”
(the koch flower) “we’re a natural part of the ecosystem oh jealousy”
“we accept you won’t kill us and that makes us a villain!”
(the villain moral) “i owe no responsibility to those whom i deny the means to be responsible”
“it was not i that made them criminal it was not i who decided their actions!”

These guys are scapegoats for Billionaires operating on a global level. These dudes are Americans. Big fish, but in a smaller pond. One of the things they have spent money on is on trying to defeat the Patriot act.

I mean sure, call them oligarchs. They hate unions, they are right wing, yada yada yada. But if you study the global elite these are not the key players. They are just one faction, and not the most powerful faction. Its almost like they are playing the role of “heel” to distract people.

The IMF, World Bank, WTO, Bussiness Roundtable, Council on Foreign Relations, Banks like Goldman Sachs, huge government contractors, and private security firms those are the insiders.

You wouldn’t include the extraction/energy sector on that list? Also no mention of the human CEOs or executive boards who ultimately control these entities? The IMF, etc are run by people – people like the Kochs who are ruthless enough to go to war with their own family over resources, nevermind the rest of us who try to stand in their way.

Well my point is, people, especially democrats, latch onto these guys because they are easy to understand. They are clearly wearing the black cowboy hats so to speak. They even have arrogant looks on their faces and beady eyes. I have been doing and expose’ on just who these “oligarchs” are if we do live in an oligarchy. Most of them seem a lot different than these two. Many of them even vote democrat. They head enormously powerful institutions and yet as people are amazingly unremarkable. People’s minds reject that. We prefer clear cut villains acting with complete autonomy.

The Koch brother’s are kind of living the American dream in a way. The idea that if you become rich enough you can do whatever you want. I am not saying its the most enlightened dream. But its like, these guys are actual people who posses agency. They have personalities, they have agendas that are not too hard to discern. I mean, they are assholes, really. But its almost easier to hate them because they are easy to figure out.

You study other people in arguably, greater positions of power and you see, something else. You see very unimpressive people. You see the Spirit of the institutions themselves being served by “hired men” It becomes very enigmatic and impersonal. You don’t see assholes throwing their weight around so much as people serving a machine with very little in the way of agency on a personal level.

That’s the shit that creeps me out.

Big daddy Koch made his legacy contracting in Communist Russia, so I guess I’ve been misunderstanding the American Dream this whole time.

    • Yep, I work in just such a machine.

unless you are willing to fight in a way that actually hurts your enemy you are wasting time, bitching doesn’t do a thing to their bottom line, “raising awareness” is to activism what fantasy football is to athletics. if you can’t make your opponent bleed they will only laugh at you.

    • Reminds me of Rupert Murdoch.
Just about everybody has always agreed that he’s despicable and was publicly disgraced at length, over the phone hacking scandal; but still his empire continues each day, accruing millions.

      • And a large portion of those millions are made on our, US citizen owned airwaves,(via TV and radio). Yet people are unwilling to hold their lawmakers feet to the fire to break up the monopolies strangling freedom of the news, now they’re even going after the internet. Sheeple, what a stupid breed.

Rich people own businesses and employ people who need jobs. If there weren’t people running companies where would people work? There are rich people who are very liberal spending millions to push our country away from the constitutional freedoms we now have, toward a socialistic system. BUT even if we went in that direction there would be people at the top having more influence than the poor people and you would be equally angry about them controlling you. Soros comes to mind or Armand Hammer of Occidental Petroleum.
