Captain America on Immigration

I think this is a perfect summation of America’s dysfunctional immigration system.

Why Cap’s words matter now: Congress will leave soon for its August recess, potentially leaving the crisis on the border with Mexico completely unresolved. With just hours left until the legislative branch leaves town until Sept. 7, the president’s requested $3.7 billion in emergency funding to deal with the crisis of unaccompanied child refugees fleeing to the U.S. from Central America has not been assigned. Obama’s legislation is quite likely dead in the water.

A competing House GOP-sponsored bill which funds spending through September may have a rocky road in the Senate. The Republican version has provisions designed to appeal to the anti-immigration crowd, like eliminating hearings for child migrants in order to speed their deportation. While Democrats consider those provisions a poison pill, it is still possible that most conservative opponents of immigration reform will decide the bill doesn’t go far enough.

People like Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Fox News’ Sean Hannity are busy pandering to the lowest common denominator: Gangs of self-declared border guards who demand the right to take immigration enforcement into their own hands. There are a lot of them — and they have guns.

Captain America would be against illegal immigration and it’s devastating effects on those involved. You just can’t have undocumented people, especially minors, just walk in to the country and start demanding benefits. And child trafficking is booming.

    • Brianna Heine

You’re exactly right. Cap is very intelligent. He would be aware of all the negative effects on the indigenous population of the Americas when those disgusting Europeans showed up and started stealing from them.

      • Ferdinand Marcos 2.0

That has zero bearing on the current situation.

    • VaudeVillain

Since Cap is a Marvel character, and Marvel dictates what he thinks, and Marvel has apparently dictated that he thinks exactly not what you wrote… you are factually wrong about what a fictional character believes. Good work, that takes some doing.

      • Ferdinand Marcos 2.0

Tell that to his creators. Long dead.

  • BuzzCoastin

it’s all in the point of view

    • Marvelous Marsupial

Different times, different ideas of what was allowed.

Nice try, now shut the fuck up and don’t try it again.

      • BuzzCoastin

yeah, after our forefathers killed off the Indians
they changed the rules to reflect different times
        so from now on
you just can’t walk into aMerka
        kill everyone off
        and call it your land
the land of the free… land

  • Echar Lailoken

    Fight for a peaceful world?

    • Michael Gacillos O’Hair

A world where those who fight aren’t needed anymore.

      • Echar Lailoken

Will they bury themselves with their hatchets?

    • Burnt Ryan

There are ways of fighting that don’t involve violence.

      • Echar Lailoken

Not in the context of this comic.

        • HCE

          Then think beyond the comic.

          • Echar Lailoken

Thanks for the permission, but I don’t need it. Think beyond your own nose.

    • Mr B
      • Echar Lailoken

Gross, I don’t like seeing that.

What, you don’t trust Rick Perry 2.0?

    • Liam_McGonagle

Let me guess what they’re saying: “Rick, STFU”

  • Number1Framer

I’m not into comic stuff and just want to know who the other guy is? Captain Texas?

    • terrasodium

I would guess that it’s sargent Blackwater xe academi of the federal reserve , fighting for truth and breakfast, and a 500 dollar a day steroid habit,

    • Roger Mexico

      Looks like Duke Nukem.

With an American flag tattoo on his face. That is just… wow.

    • Echar Lailoken

      Jarhead ‘murica?

    • InfvoCuernos

Whoever he is, he reminds me of the pedophile on the Venture Brothers with the big letter (last season it was a “V”) on his face.

  • Marvelous Marsupial

Oh for the ever loving fucking love of sky daddies…. Cap’n America was the son of LEGAL irish immigrants.

There is a fucking difference between legal immigrants and illegal undocumented border jumpers violating our laws.

Dude should’ve pulled the trigger on his PC liberal buzzword spewing ass.

    • Joseph Mayfield

      ^ fail.

    • Brianna Heine

I would like to point out that Cap’s family was only legal because a bunch of filthy Europeans stole a country from an indigenous population and murdered the majority of them. Get off your high horse. The history of America’s origin is not a proud one.

    • Adam’s Shadow

That’ll show that fictional character! You must be extra super-duper tough in the real world.

    • VaudeVillain

      Is there though?

The “legal” immigrants you speak of came here uninvited, without permission or pre-approval. They got off of the boats, and they applied for residency, and most of them were eagerly rush-processed onto the voter rolls. Except for the ones who weren’t… who usually just vanished into the general population, started families, worked, paid taxes, and were able to rely on their skin tone not to betray their lack of legal status.

Today, the same kinds of people show up, get shot at, are denied any chance to apply for anything, and anyone with too deep a tan is subject to “papers please” and automatic initiation of deportation if they are unable to provide them… regardless of whether they are any sort of immigrant whatsoever.

You’re right, there is a fucking difference: WE ARE BEING EVEN SHITTIER NOW, BECAUSE RACIST FUCKWADS CAN’T STAND THE THOUGHT OF LIVING NEAR BROWN PEOPLE. That’s what changed. Own up or shut up.

  • RedBearThndrDncr

Number1Framer the other guy is called Nuke.

  • Liam_McGonagle

Some of this is the literal truth. My father was an anchor baby, but that didn’t stop him from going on about Latino migrants.

  • Truth Teller

As always, by the time congress (of either party) does anything, the problem is already resolved. In addition, what they decide to do normally makes things worse.
