Anarchist Death Brigade Sends Bullets to Chilean Pastor, Threatens Arson

Proving that there are other options to simply voting in presidential primaries, the Anarchists of the Federazione Anarchica Informale – shortened to the FAI, or The Informal Anarchist Federation in English, mailed bullets and a threatening letter to Rafael Cáceres Olave, pastor of the Church of the Holy Sacrament in Chile.  The Anarchists claim the Pastor had aided the State in the “so-called Bombs Case in Chile,” the case involving the Anarchist group Conspiracy of Cells of Fire in regards to a subway bombing on September 8th, 2014. The full letter by the FAI claiming responsibility is included at the end of this article.

The letter, reposted by Insurrection News and 325, claims responsibility not only for the bullet-laden letter but other attacks including “various explosions at churches” and ongoing arson attacks against The Church of the National Gratitude.

The Death Brigade FAI/FRI made it clear this is no collection of high-school students with a passing interest in Bakunin. This is hardcore Propaganda of the Deed. “The fire, the attack, the threat against any representative of the church and the power is fully justified,” noted the Anarchists, “We have the weapons and our willingness to attack them. Their days of revelry are over.”

The FAI/FRI is probably the only Anarchist collective on the planet capable of backing up that claim, having launched arson attacks against cellphone towers in Russia as well as Chilean banks, sabotaging Bristol train lines, even shooting out the kneecap of the head of an Italian nuclear engineering company.

These guys and gals don’t play around and aren’t interested in “influencing the argument” or “moral victories.”

Via Vice:

“the FAI isn’t out to make friends or help fix society. Instead, they claim to ‘fight continuously to remove the status quo and to implement a completely new and free society’…However, no solidarity is shown for those already being oppressed if they’re not prepared for violent combat against their enemies, because this is apparently just adding to the oppression the FAI aim to destroy.

In essence, the FAI is a nihilist anarchist organisation. The members aren’t out to represent you or to protect anybody from the ruthless grip of inequality. They are not Hugo Chavez or Vladimir Lenin – they don’t care if your plight isn’t represented if you just stand by with your hands in your pockets.”

Symbol of the FAI

Symbol of the FAI

Nihilists? Perhaps. But the actions and nature of the FAI, even the “informal” nature of its organization point to heavy influences drawn from the works of philosopher Max Stirner:

“The poor become free and proprietors only when they rise.” Thus, “[i]f we want no longer to leave the land to the landed proprietors, but to appropriate it to ourselves, we unite ourselves to this end, form a union, a société, that makes itself proprietor . . . we can drive them out of many another property yet, in order to make it our property, the property of the — conquerors.

Stirner recognises the importance of self-liberation and the way that authority often exists purely through its acceptance by the governed….And, significantly, part of this process of liberation involves the destruction of hierarchy. For Stirner, “Hierarchy is domination of thoughts, domination of mind!,” and this means that we are “kept down by those who are supported by thoughts.” [p. 72 and p. 74] That is, by our own willingness to not question authority and the sources of that authority, such as private property and the state:

“Proudhon calls property ‘robbery’ (le vol) But alien property — and he is talking of this alone — is not less existent by renunciation, cession, and humility; it is a present. Who so sentimentally call for compassion as a poor victim of robbery, when one is just a foolish, cowardly giver of presents? Why here again put the fault on others as if they were robbing us, while we ourselves do bear the fault in leaving the others unrobbed? The poor are to blame for there being rich men.” [p. 315]

So, what does the Good Doctor think about all this? As Disinfo’s principal Communist, Conjurer, and Reporter of Fortune I’d never besmirch this website’s good name by condoning violence, though I’d say my feelings on the matter are pretty clear on my Facebook page.

I have always maintained in my ongoing election coverage that the electoral system is a joke. The people keep getting shafted because they keep believing somebody other than themselves actually gives a shit about them. Newsflash: the governments of the world are run by the idle rich and they are slowly phasing you out. Back in the day they at least needed us to hang around to perform tasks too menial or unclean for themselves. Now “the top 1% of households account for 40% of financial net worth, more than the bottom 95% of households put together.” The whole Capitalist machine can run just fine without us. If things are this bad now just imagine how they’ll be when they don’t need to pretend they care.

Is the violence of the FAI/FRI unethical? No more so than the everyday violence of starving children, ghetto housing, lack of medical care for the poor, and open contempt for those in poverty.

And perhaps when that violence ends the FAI/FRI can end theirs.

Responsibility claim for threats against the pastor of The Church of the Holy Sacrament.

(Translated into English)

Throughout history the church and its mutations have managed to prevail as both a symbol and performer of power. With small reinvestments they have been able to make their moral and divine authority remain legitimate as well as remaining as a form of control for humanity. The blood shed by the Inquisition in previous times is replaced today by moral standards and behaviors that are nothing more than the reflection of a sick society. Heteronormativity, male supremacy, monarchies, justification for human and animal exploitation, vices such as machismo, pedophilia, the power led to the smallest scale, the imbecility legitimized in more imbecility and of course we cannot forget the ‘hard’ punishment which is handed down to bastard pederasts: a life of prayer.

Throughout history the church has always been a target of attack for those who fight against the power. We will never forget how Mateo Morral attempted to attack the Catholic monarchs in 1906. Here in Chile such attacks have not been the exception either; in the year 1915 the power launched a witch-hunt against anarchist compañeros in an attempt to find those responsible for dynamite attacks against religious convents. The Death Brigade in the Spain of 1936 looted churches, desecrated the graves of priests and murdered those who had been kept alive and protected by fascists in small towns.

In present day Chile these actions have continued. Various insurrectionary cells have bombed churches with explosives and incendiary devices. Even during protests churches have been targeted, for example: The Church of the National Gratitude that is located in the center of Alameda. It front doors were burned by insurrectos during a manifestation on August 25, 2011. The doors saw flames again on the 23rd of May, 2015 in commemoration of the death of anarchist Mauricio Morales, and days later, on May 28 – again during a manifestation – it’s doors were fuel for the anarchist fire.

Without further ado, with this email we claim responsibility for the letter that was mailed to Rafael Cáceres Olave, pastor of the Church of the Holy Sacrament in the days preceding the trial faced by the anarchists Mónica Caballero and Francisco Solar in Spain who are accused of various explosions at churches that were claimed by Insurrectionary Commando Mateo Morral. The letter contained a message for our compañeros and bullets. We chose this person as our subject as they are the pastor of the church that Mónica had been accused of attacking in the so-called Bombs Case in Chile.

The fire, the attack, the threat against any representative of the church and the power is fully justified. We have the weapons and our willingness to attack them. Their days of revelry are over.

Demolishing their history, false morality, power and authority…
We shout our demands with strength:
Mónica Caballero and Francisco Solar to the streets!
Death to the state / capital / church and long live anarchy!
