“Jonathan Shaw is the Great Nightmare Anti-Hero of the New Age.” –Iggy Pop

Jonathan Shaw is a writer and a tattoo artist. He is arguably the most famous tattoo artist in the world, he is without a doubt the first tattoo artist to do late night television. Why? You ask. Maybe because he tattooed countless celebrities including Johnny Depp who became a friend and fan. Or maybe it’s because he ran away from home at a young age and joined the LA scene in the 60s and spent time at the Manson Family ranch (before the murders). Or maybe it’s because he used to hang out with Led Zeppelin and was friends with Jim Morrison. Maybe it’s because when he started doing tattoos he was in Brazil and made his own equipment. Basically, the dude’s lived, and fortunately for us all he started writing. Rolling Stone lauded him “the next Bukowski.” His latest effort, Scab Vendor, which will be released in 2017, chronicles all of these items and more. We discuss the book, his life and work, publishing and tons more.
