On September 13th, 2011, Thomas Kean, chair of the 9/11 Commission and former governor of NJ, gave a lecture for the The Drew Forum, a series of public lectures at Drew University located in Madison, New Jersey. We Are Change was tipped off to the event by FreedumbFighter28. and attended. After the lecture, a question and answer session was opened up to the audience. When We Are Change asked Thomas Kean to address the collapse of WTC Building 7, which was not hit by a plane, and was not mentioned once in The 9/11 Commission Report, his answer was simply shocking.

Buddhist scholar Graeme MacQueen gave a talk that explained why Buddhists should take action to stop war and its causes.  Unfortunately, even the most compassionate people in our western society often find justification for doing nothing while suffering grows around them.  Many Buddhists are in that frame of mind and they justify their non-action by claiming that their responsibility is soley to avoid violence in themselves.  But Professor MacQueen has challenged this stance, recalling Buddhist scripture and revisiting the concept of a bodhisattva.

As Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “There comes a time when silence is betrayal.”  Similarly, Professor MacQueen asks in this talk if we have the right to “give away things that don’t belong to us … the earth … species … ecosystems … the futures of our children and other people’s children.”  Through silent collaboration, that is what many people are doing today.

The ‘Science of 9/11′ Discussed in Two U.S. Universities

Amidst the break down of the Zuccotti park Occupy Wall Street encampment, other tremors to the collective psyche are reverberating around our nations’ universities. Two events are set to discuss the science of the destruction of the three WTC towers on 9/11 this week.

The first being held at the University of Chattanooga at Tennessee entitled, “The Science of 911: What is the forensic science of investigating a disaster?”  The second event features Professor Niels H. Harrit of Copenhagen University and the title of his lecture is “The Collapse of the Seventh Tower: A Physical & Chemical Analysis.”

Hemp Activists and “Truthers” Unite

After 11 years, the Florida Hemp Fest is back with a new twist.

Dennis “Murli” Watkins, who served four months of jail time for orchestrating a “doobie toss” at the event in 1994, is bringing back what used to be an annual celebration of marijuana and a protest for its legalization. —Gainesville Sun

Murli just so happens to be a supporter of the “truth.” When we were contacted by him to set up a table and to give a talk on various topics such as the Federal Reserve, fluoride, and 9/11 we gladly accepted.

Watkins said this year’s edition will touch on other, even more controversial issues than legalizing pot. “Hemp has been cultivated for thousands of years. Here it is almost 2012, and we’re still fighting this same stupid battle,” he said. “9/11 was an inside job and they’re worried about someone smoking a doobie.

Michael Shermer, the founder and editor of Skeptic magazine, has never received so many angry letters as when he wrote a column for Scientific American debunking 9/11 conspiracy theories. Mr. Shermer found himself vilified, often in CAPITAL LETTERS, as a patsy of the sinister Zionist cabal that deliberately destroyed the twin towers and blew a hole in the Pentagon while secretly killing off the passengers of the flights that disappeared, just to make the thing look more plausible.

He tells this story in his fascinating new book, The Believing Brain: From Ghosts and Gods to Politics and Conspiracies—How We Construct Beliefs and Reinforce Them as Truths. In Mr. Shermer’s view, the brain is a belief engine, predisposed to see patterns where none exist and to attribute them to knowing agents rather than to chance — the better to make sense of the world.
