Depending on which definition (2, 5A&B) of cult, all churches can be one. They all certainly start out as one, perhaps sect is a more polite term. Sometimes a cult is non religious altogether, we here at disinfo can be perceived as one. Depending on how loosely one views the definition of course. I digress, this article talks about a family that has lost their daughter to a nondenominational New Testament church. Called the Church of Wells.

Andy and Patty Grove never planned to settle outside of Texas. Their roots in the state reach back many generations. Patty’s ancestors came to Texas on a wagon train from Tennessee in the 1830’s (an elementary school in Houston is named for her great-grandfather); Andy’s father owned a tract of land that is now part of the posh Houston neighborhood of Hedwig Village. The two grew up a mere five miles away from each other in West Houston, where they attended Stratford and Memorial, rival high schools in Spring Branch ISD.

The History Channel’s Obama-Doppelganger Satan

Pondering what Barack Obama would look like if he actually were the Antichrist returned, as believed by some segments of the Christian right? The History Channel has a new ten-hour series telling the story of the Bible, and viewers, including Herman Cain and Glenn Beck, have noticed that the devil bears a strange resemblance to the U.S. president. Via CBS News:

Mohamen Mehdi Ouazanni as Satan in the TV mini-series “The Bible.”

The Pope Resigns But The Seat of Evil Remains

The world once again has the opportunity to watch the ceremonious election of a new pontiff.  The seat of power which was first created, based on the Judaic cult, built from the curious and powerful mystery of a one Jesus of Nazareth is soon to be decided upon.

For the first time in 600 years, a standing pope has resigned, citing old age and ailing health.  This may be the case, but why wasn’t the resignation due to blatant  cover-ups on the worldwide sex scandal that continues on to this very day?  Why wasn’t it the appalling and egregious promotion of refusal of birth control and contraception in the third world where child poverty and HIV infection run rampant?  The truth is that the real ‘truth’ on such dirty deeds will not voluntarily come to light; the power is too sweet, the money is too good, the people too pliable.… Read the rest

Jesus Antichrist: Does Joel’s Army Actually Worship Satan?

A central theme in Christian eschatology is the rise of the Antichrist. This Antichrist is supposed to trick millions (even billions) into worshiping him and, according to many on the Christian right, establish a one world government. What better disguise for the ultimate false messiah to deceive the world than Jesus? As I posted earlier, the Dominionist Joel's Army movement believes less in feeding the poor and visiting those in prison like the Biblical Jesus taught than in slaughtering unbelievers and taking over all the countries of the world militarily and politically. The following video examines, from a more traditional Christian perspective, the possibility that Joel's Army and the Dominionist movement are in fact the forces of the Antichrist, that the spirits that fill them are demons, and that the god they worship is actually Satan in disguise.

Hi, I’m the Anti-Christ

ressurection-13-1Hi, I’m the Anti-Christ:

My name is R. Talmadge Lacy and I was born on 12/13/1979. (12 = number of Apostles + Jesus = 13) // (1+2+1+3+1+9+7+9=33) 33 is called the Christ vibration for reasons that are mysterious and weird. On top of all that my dad was a carpenter and my mom’s name is Virginia: (Virgin)ia.

Now what exactly makes me the “Anti”-Christ? Well according to mainstream Christianity, Christ is something separate from yourself; an external authority figure one must submit to in order to be saved. I, however, do not believe in this model of Christ. You might even say I believe the exact opposite is true. Now I’m not the first or only person to hold this point of view — from Jewish mystics to gnostic Christians, many have associated the Messiah (the morning star) with our personal consciousness. Thereby by the light of consciousness every man & every woman was likened to a star — therefore one must follow one’s own highest light in order to become one with God.… Read the rest

Antichrist Mania: Glenn Beck Says It’s Not Obama, It’s James Cameron

It's Antichrist day apparently. Further to my earlier post about a quarter of Republicans believing that President Obama may be the Antichrist, the Hollywood Reporter reveals that one of the Republicans' favorite media mouthpieces, Glenn Beck, actually thinks the Antichrist is filmmaker James Cameron. Come on guys, get your story straight, or is it just your all-purpose slur for anyone who you think might not be as holy as thou?
"Avatar" director James Cameron lashed out at Glenn Beck at a news conference Tuesday, offering to debate the Fox News personality on environmental and political issues. Asked what he thought about Beck during a junket appearance in support of the "Avatar" home video release, Cameron said: "Glenn Beck is a fucking asshole. I've met him. He called me the anti-Christ, and not about 'Avatar.' He hadn't even seen 'Avatar' yet. I don't know if he has seen it."

Republicans See Obama As The Antichrist

Obama-telepromter-healthcare-speechOr at least nearly one quarter of them do, according to the Daily Mail. Will the other 75% please throw these religious lunatics out of your party?

Americans who suggest Barack Obama should rot in hell are apparently deadly serious. Nearly a quarter of Republicans believe the Democrat president ‘may be the Antichrist’, according to a survey. An even greater number compared him to Hitler.

Mr Obama was jubilant this week after securing his £626billion healthcare reform plan. But his triumph seems only to have inflamed his critics among the evangelical Christians from America’s heartland who kept George Bush in power for eight years and have demonised his successor.

More than half of the Republicans quizzed by Harris Poll, 57 per cent, believed the president was secretly Muslim, something he has consistently denied. And 67 per cent of Republicans who responded believed Obama was a socialist, despite his central leanings…

‘Antichrist’ Is the Most Beautiful Piece of Muddled Art You Might Never See

Great C. Robert Cargill review for Film.com:

It’s rare that I find myself truly indifferent to a film — especially a film that is so clearly and openly divisive. But that’s exactly how I feel about Antichrist: completely indecisive. I see both sides, understanding the people who love it, voraciously devouring every lyrical moment, while simultaneously getting why people hate the living crap out of it. A deliberately offensive opus of shock, this film will at some moment find something disagreeable for everybody. But unlike most films that rely upon shock, director Lars von Trier has no intention of making you laugh. Quite the contrary. He wants to make you recoil. He wants to challenge your sense of morality and taste. And he wants to make you feel, one way or another.

But that’s not necessarily a good thing.

By now you’ve most likely heard about it. Widely panned at Cannes by some, praised by others, and completely spoiled in the press, especially on the Drudge Report in which its final scenes were spoiled in headlines splashed across the front page.
