Colorado and Washington Prepare for Cannabis Tourism

cannabisHopefully the other states will start to fall in line when they see what prohibition is costing them in lost tourist dollars.

Marijuana users in Colorado and Washington are counting down the hours before the western US states become the first to legalize recreational pot shops on January 1.

Blazing a trail they hope will be followed in other parts of the United States, cannabis growers and others are also rubbing their hands, while tax collectors are eyeing (sic) the revenue the newly-legalized trade will generate.

Enterprising companies are even offering marijuana tours to cash in on tourists expected to be attracted to a Netherlands-style pot culture — including in Colorado’s famous ski resorts.

“Just the novelty alone is bringing people from everywhere,” said Adam Raleigh of cannabis supplier Telluride Bud Co.

“I have people driving in from Texas, Arizona, Utah… to be a part of history.

“Over the last month I have received somewhere between four to six emails a day and five to 10 phone calls a day asking all about the law and when should people plan their ski trip to go along with cannabis,” he added.

I. The Dominoes Are Falling

Now that Uruguay has become the first country in the world to legalize the production and sale of cannabis, let’s take a look at an updated map of Wikipedia’s legality of cannabis by country. In addition to the beautiful blue speck representing Uruguay in South America, please pay close attention to the two areas shown in the United States of America, expect there to be more (2).

Canadians Can Grow Tobacco for Personal Use; We Should Be Able to Do the Same with Cannabis

via chycho

Knowing full well the devastating consequences of America’s War on Drugs, the very same day that Washington State and Colorado legalized the recreational use of Cannabis, the Harper Government introduced “tough new mandatory minimum sentences for marijuana” – a change in the law that even the judiciary is resisting.

The government followed-up this prohibitionist agenda by “changing medical marijuana rules in Canada” so that patients would no longer be able to grow their own medicine, attacking the most vulnerable in our society by turning a health policy into a crime policy.

We won’t go into the details of how Canadians feel about this government, suffice it to say that even before the senate scandal blew up in Harper’s face, a poll from the summer of 2013 showed that 70% of Canadians surveyed wanted the Conservatives gone.

The question we should be asking ourselves as Harper hands out licenses to corporations to grow medical marijuana while prohibiting individual Canadians from growing their own supply, is that; Canadians 18 years of age or older can grow up to 15 kg of tobacco for personal use, so why shouldn’t we be able to do the same with cannabis?

Coming Out of the Dark Ages, Psychedelic Science, and Freedom Over Consciousness: Introduction to the Benefits of Cannabis, Psilocybin, Ayahuasca, LSD, DMT, and Ibogaine

Psychedelic Science1

Robert Anton Wilson, summarizing the works of Dr. Timothy Leary, stated in “The Eight Systems of Consciousness” that we are living through the Dark Ages “like the scholars of the Inquisitorial era”.

“None of Dr. Leary’s most important studies have either suffered refutation or enjoyed confirmation, because enacted law, statues enacted after and because of Dr. Leary’s research – makes it a crime for any other psychologists or psychiatrists to replicate such research. I know you’ve heard that the Inquisition ended in 1819, but in many areas of psychotherapy and medicine, the U.S. government has taken up where the Vatican left off.” – Robert Anton Wilson

Robert Anton Wilson: Consciousness, Conspiracy & Coincidence

The tides, however, are turning. With the federal government stating that they will not interfere with the legalization of cannabis in Washington State and Colorado, and corporate shills like John McCain and mainstream pundits like Dr.

How New Cannabis Prohibition Laws Created Crime in Holland

Members of local government in Holland decided to implement stricter marijuana laws which then gave more power to violent street dealers that began to take over the market.

When the governments realized this was happening, they eased up on some of the laws again. When the coffeshops were allowed to sell cannabis to tourists again, members of these gangs threatened coffeshop owners because their business was being taken away from them, This video shows footage of one of the street dealers threatening a coffeshop owner and the experience of the person who was filming the confrontation.

In Case You Missed It: Sanjay Gupta’s ‘Weed’

I missed Sanjay Gupta’s special report/documentary/mea culpa “Weed” because I was too busy wrapping up work in time for the season premiere of “Breaking Bad”. If you didn’t catch it and want to see what you missed, then we’ve got it here. You might be able to watch it at CNN’s site, but you’ll probably need more patience for slideshow and commercials than I have. I prefer the YouTube upload… at least until they get around to taking it down.

Marijuana stops child’s severe seizures

via CNN:

“They weren’t calling it epilepsy,” Paige said. “We just thought it was one random seizure. They did a million-dollar work-up — the MRI, EEG, spinal tap — they did the whole work-up and found nothing. And sent us home.”

A week later, Charlotte had another seizure. This one was longer, and it was only the beginning. Over the next few months, Charlotte — affectionately called Charlie — had frequent seizures lasting two to four hours, and she was hospitalized repeatedly.

Doctors were stumped. Her blood tests were normal. Her scans were all normal.

“They said it’s probably going to go away,” Paige recalled. “It is unusual in that it’s so severe, but it’s probably something she’ll grow out of.”

But she didn’t grow out of it. The seizures continued. The hospital stays got longer. One of the doctors treating Charlotte thought there were three possible diagnoses.

The worse-case scenario?

Cannabis Planted in UK City of Newport’s Potted Plants

THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE.

THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE.

Yo, dawg; I heard you like potted plants, so I potted your plant so you can smoke that potted pot while you pot pot plants.

Via BBC:

Council officials in Newport are trying to discover who planted cannabis in flower pots put out to brighten up the city.

More than 20 of the illegal plants were discovered nestling amongst begonias and petunias in the street flower displays.

But by the time police were told and went to examine the specimens they had already been harvested.

The council said it was checking CCTV footage to find the culprits.

“I had never seen cannabis growing in the wild before so it was crazy to see it,” said local businessman Dean Beddis, who made the discovery.

It’s a serious issue and we will be informing the police”

“It’s actually rather a beautiful plant and stood out wonderfully. But they have gone now.
