Jean Gebser & Robert Anton Wilson: The Micro & Macro of Consciousness

Disinfonauts!  I spoke the other day at the Jean Gebser conference and had a great time learning more about the unsung muse of consciousness conversation, Jean Gebser.  As I read his magnum opus, The Ever Present Origin, I immediately saw a direct correlation between Gebser and Robert Anton Wilson.  If you would like to see what I mean, take some time to check out this presentation.

Anaesthesiologists Claim Evidence Of Third State Of Consciousness

state of consciousnessVia Live Science, supposedly unconscious patients under certain dosages of general anaesthesia exist in a zombie-like state in which they can respond to commands, yet have no impulses of their own and feel nothing:

New findings point to the possibility of a state of mind in which a patient is neither fully conscious nor unconscious, experts say.

This possible third state of consciousness, may be a state in which patients can respond to a command, but are not disturbed by pain or the surgery, according to Dr. Jaideep Pandit, anesthetist at St John’s College in England.

Pandit dubbed this state dysanaesthesia, and said the evidence that it exists comes partly from a recent study, in which 34 surgical patients were anesthetized, and had their whole body paralyzed except for their forearm, allowing them to move their fingers in response to commands.

In the patients who responded to the doctor’s command by moving their hand, the doctors took it as a sign of consciousness, and increased the anesthetic dose.

Coming Out of the Dark Ages, Psychedelic Science, and Freedom Over Consciousness: Introduction to the Benefits of Cannabis, Psilocybin, Ayahuasca, LSD, DMT, and Ibogaine

via chycho

Psychedelic Science1

Robert Anton Wilson, summarizing the works of Dr. Timothy Leary, stated in “The Eight Systems of Consciousness” that we are living through the Dark Ages “like the scholars of the Inquisitorial era”.

“None of Dr. Leary’s most important studies have either suffered refutation or enjoyed confirmation, because enacted law, statues enacted after and because of Dr. Leary’s research – makes it a crime for any other psychologists or psychiatrists to replicate such research. I know you’ve heard that the Inquisition ended in 1819, but in many areas of psychotherapy and medicine, the U.S. government has taken up where the Vatican left off.” – Robert Anton Wilson

Robert Anton Wilson: Consciousness, Conspiracy & Coincidence

The tides, however, are turning. With the federal government stating that they will not interfere with the legalization of cannabis in Washington State and Colorado, and corporate shills like John McCain and mainstream pundits like Dr.

Oral Sex, Molecular Engineering and the Fall from the Brain of Eden.

wrightbookHumankind was expelled from the Garden of Eden for eating the forbidden fruit. But, according to a radical theory, it was actually for not eating enough of the stuff.

Consciousness theorist Tony Wright argues that human evolution stalled around 200,000 years ago, an event that may have been recorded in the world’s myths as “the fall from grace”, humanity’s rude ejection from a “golden age”. According to the theory, climate change forced humans from tropical forests where a high fruit diet had fuelled the rapid development of the brain. Beyond the forests, with fewer nutritional components present, the brain degenerated, a trend which included the growing domination of the left-hemisphere over an actually better preserved right.

According to Wright, unless we change our diet – or, advanced molecular engineering, as he prefers to call it – we will continue our slide and, via our increasingly destructive actions, continue to literally destroy our once perceived Eden.… Read the rest

Your Religion Might As Well Be Football

The 12th Man Never DiesAhhh Football season. The crisp feel of fall winds and the sound of drunkenness in the afternoon. There is absolutely nothing more distinctly and disturbingly American than football culture. So, you get a bunch of dudes who may or may not drink very often incredibly drunk in the middle of the afternoon. If their team wins, they get increasingly wasted and elated. If they lose they get dangerously sauced and pissed off. Yeah, that’s gonna end well for the kids.

Don’t fool yourself. Football (or any sport for that matter) wouldn’t exist in its insanely bloated capacity if weed and hallucinogens weren’t outlawed back in the day. People would probably be more into fucking and playing the electro delay sitar. Maybe there’d be porno sitar players. I don’t know. What I do know is that alcohol is legal and because of that, football culture is fucking PERFECT. You work a dumbshit job all day but hell, it’s all worth it because on the weekend you get to throw back drink after drink and yell at people who could kick the living crap out of you.… Read the rest

Are Psychedelics A Gateway To Interspecies Communication?

interspecies communication

Via the Daily Grail, Paul Devereux on tapping into non-human awareness surrounding us:

We have already noted that the idea that ontologically independent beings (‘spirits’) or intelligences are contactable through plant-induced trances is standard in most if not all shamanic tribal societies, but to posit such a thing in modern Western societies is viewed as tantamount to insanity, a nonsense notion to be dismissed out of hand.

Because of the deep-rooted modern Western assumption that consciousness cannot occur in any other guise than human (the ultimate hubris of our species, perhaps) discussion of a conscious plant kingdom, or of that providing a portal through which contact with other, ontologically independent beings or intelligences can occur, is simply not possible within the mainstream culture.

It is a remarkable fact that plant hallucinogens are hallucinogenic precisely because they contain the same, or effectively the same, chemicals as are found in the human brain, and so act on us as if we were indeed engaged in an interspecies communication.

Remember Child, You Are A Universe Within Yourself

MiddayVeil_SubterraneanRitual2Another super freaky video by my favorite purveyors of psych rock goodness, Midday Veil. All the lyrics are basically a riff on the classic Occultist mantra: As Above, So Below: Remember child: you are a universe within yourself All the sun and moon and stars above all have their parallels Inside each microcosmic vessel of your human cells You are the alpha, the omega, heaven and hell  Make sure you watch the entire thing. The whole planets colliding motif is awesome, but when Emily's disembodied eyes and mouth enter the picture and impart this ancient message to the viewer, things get all kinds of trippy. Oh, and they're about to embark on a brief West Coast tour which starts tomorrow. If you haven't seen these cats live, check it.

The Expansionary Occult Agenda That No One Talks About

Intronaut2At this point we should all know that the word Occult is derived from the word occluded and is often interpreted as the search for “knowledge of the hidden”. By that definition, I’ve often pointed out that the most obviously hidden aspect of our society is that we don’t talk about what we’re up to exactly pretty much ever. If you came up to a person on the street and asked them the meaning of life, I’d say the likelihood they’d reply: “to blindly churn out as many humans as possible through reckless fucking and build as much new weird stuff as quickly as we can” would be fairly slim. I guess the reason for that would have to do with the fact that it sounds utterly insane when you say it out loud, which is precisely why we don’t do it. And yet, it is the supreme goal nearly all of us spend a great deal of our time contributing to every single day.… Read the rest

Manly P. Hall Gets to the Heart of Homer’s “Odyssey”

mphall_89yearsYou won’t hear this interpretation in the storied halls of academia.

Manly P Hall – author, mystic, examiner of all things esoteric – teases apart the obscurities of Homer’s epic to reveal its secret meaning. Namely, what certain elements represent and how it relates to the inner life of man (mental/emotional/spiritual) and consciousness by and large.

Clocking in around an hour-and-a-half, it’s a bit of an undertaking – but it’s well worth the listen:

For more of Hall’s complete talks, check out the Apollyon Productions channel on YouTube:

How Our Ancestors Used to Sleep Twice a Night and Highlighting the Problem of Present Shock

8 hour sleeping is a modern invention.

Imagine you are a denizen of the 18th century. It’s just past 8:30 P.M., you’ve got your night-cap on. You blow out your candles and fall asleep to the smell of the wax and the wick, which gently fills the air around your bed. Some hours pass. 2:30 AM. You awaken, grab your coat, and visit the neighbors because they, too, are up. Doing quiet reading, prayer, or even having sex. Well, apparently before the age of electricity, sleeping twice a night was completely ubiquitous.

Back in those times, we slept twice a night, getting up for an hour or two for recreation before heading back to bed until dawn.

From Slumberwise.com:

The existence of our sleeping twice per night was first uncovered by Roger Ekirch, professor of History at Virginia Tech.

His research found that we didn’t always sleep in one eight hour chunk.
