Did you know that you are presently ‘holding’ a schedule 1 psychedelic drug in your brain right now? Unfortunately as soon as that shit is anywhere other than in your brain, it’s as illegal as Heroin, or Crack.
You may be wondering what it is. Well, psychnautical guru and all around interesting guy, Terence McKenna said DMT was the most shocking thing a human can consume this side of the yawning grave. Coming from a guy who was to psychedelics what Lil’ Wayne is to ‘Sizzurp’, this is quite an astonishing claim.
Due to its difficulty to get a hold of, some have gone through the work of figuring out how to get this mystical substance in their expanding little minds. A friend of mine was one of those people. He, like many others had been hearing wonderful and sometimes terrifying stories of DMT’s transformational power. He had read books like The Cosmic Serpent, Supernatural and DMT: The Spirit Molecule and watched all kinds of youtube stuff.

In a major breakthrough in consciousness and psychedelic studies, Cottonwood Research Foundation has published a paper (soon to appear in the Journal Biomedical Chromatography) documenting the presence of DMT in the brains of living rats.
For decades researchers have hypothesized that DMT may be one of the neurochemicals responsible for consciousness, dreams and visionary experiences. It’s certainly responsible for these and ever weirder experiences for those who have smoked it or taken Ayahuasca. DMT has been documented as naturally occurring in human blood, but this was not conclusive evidence that it is produced in the brain. DMT is structurally related to Serotonin, Melatonin and Pinoline, so the small traces in human blood could be an enzymatic breakdown product of these precursor molecules.
Now we have clear proof of DMT being manufactured in the living Pineal Glands of rats, and that the genes responsible for this exist in the Pineal Gland and Retina!… Read the rest
In the African forests we were shoving the hormone rich sex [reproductive] organs of plants into our mouths everyday for millions of years…Each containing a level of biochemical complexity off the charts that influenced DNA transcription, pineal gland activity, and so on.
Trees were like drug dealers on the corner competing for attention. The most attractive, delicious, and nutritious fruits were the ones chosen, with the plants reward being seed dissemination; thus securing their survival down the evolutionary timeline. For the organism doing the ‘oral sex’, this biochemical cocktail, which we are only just beginning to understand, was quite literally involved in building and fueling the brain on a sub-cellular level for eons.
If we were to have a sane and adult conversation about drug use and abuse in America instead of waging a war on drugs the same way we wage a war on terror, we might come to the realization that we’re letting the bad ones in our homes freely while some of the most helpful to improving the quality of life of the average person carry some of the highest minimum prison sentences of all, while touting an infinitesimal number of related deaths. Some of you may have read Thad McKracken’s well thought out article on the state of drugs in society today. The numbers fall in lockstep with his thoughts.
It turns out that, aside from Alcohol, Big Pharma is the #1 killer while drugs that have been used traditionally as entheogens hardly appear in the statistics at all. Drugs like LSD, DMT, Marajuana, Peyote and other psychedelics are used as a religious sacrament in many belief systems around the world, but are vilified because of their tendency to provide people with what Terence McKenna simply called ‘funny ideas’.… Read the rest
Some people have all the luck. Some people get excited when they win a free order of fries and that’s the best they get. Not my pal, Hamilton Morris. No, he gets things like newly discovered variations of DMT. Before some of you get all huffy with your hours of arguments, just remember that this is scientific work on the cutting edge. Though it is controversial to some, an understanding of what we call consciousness is serious business to people like Hamilton.

Modest though it may be, what we have contained in this letter is possible evidence of the first psychedelic drug of marine origin.1 In 1997 Alexander Shulgin wrote of marine tryptamines, “5-Bromo-DMT and 5,6-dibromo-DMT are found in the sponges Smenospongia aurea and S. echina resp. I have no idea if they are active by smoking (the 5-Br-DMT just might be)… I had the fantasy of trying to scotch the rumor I’m about to start, that all the hippies of the San Francisco Bay Area were heading to the Caribbean with packets of Zig-Zag papers, to hit the sponge trade with a psychedelic fervor.
As I was catching up on the always brilliant Phantasmaphile blog the other day (ran by the rather bewitching Pam Grossman), I noticed that she’d declared 2013 as the “year of the witch”. Hmmm, never occurred to me but let’s run with it. December 21, 2012 supposedly represented a shift in consciousness and I’ll be honest, I sort of feel like a psychic veil has in fact been subtly lifted. Has a new Aeon begun which will re-align us with the sacred shamanic feminine knowledge they used to build the pyramids? I think you’d have to look back on our era from at least fifty years in the future to make any sort of determination on that one. Let’s just remember that it’s fun to pretend that it did, and us doing so enriches the cosmic current of the macro-consciousness. The future already happened man.
So with this in mind, I’m gonna hopefully do a series of posts in 2013 about women artists, musicians, philosophers, etc.… Read the rest
