You can speak into it, too. Seriously.

A German museum has put on display a copy of Vincent van Gogh’s ear that was grown using genetic material provided by one of the 19th-century Dutch artist’s living relatives.

The Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe said artist Diemut Strebe made the replica using living cells from Lieuwe van Gogh, the great-great-grandson of Vincent’s brother Theo.

Using a 3D-printer, the cells were shaped to resemble the ear that Vincent van Gogh is said to have cut off during a psychotic episode in 1888.

“I use science basically like a type of brush, like Vincent used paint,” Strebe told The Associated Press in a telephone interview Tuesday.

The U.S.-based artist said the ear, which was grown at Boston’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital, is being kept alive inside a case containing a nourishing liquid and could theoretically last for years.

Disney’s New Microphone Allows Transfer of Secret Audio Message by Placing Finger to Ear

imagesCodename “Wet Willy.” Soon to be followed by the private text message deliver system, “Pull My Finger.” Olfactory messenger app “Smell My Finger” is already in beta test. Tech bloggers are currently researching a new hot app called “FingerBang.”

Disney researchers have developed a microphone that lets a user record a voice message and then relay that message to another person simply by touching them with a finger.

The microphone converts the voice message into an inaudible signal which is transmitted to the body of the person holding the microphone as an inaudible signal. It can then be transmitted from that person’s body to another person’s body through touch. The recorded sound only becomes audible when touching someone else’s ear. Their ear canal acts as a sort of speaker, allowing them to listen to a secret finger-transmitted message. The sound can’t be heard by anyone else but the person being touched
