Failed Evangelical Apocalypse Predictor Harold Camping Dead At 92

Apocalypse SaturdayEver get the feeling that when semi-senile celebrity televangelists declare that the end of the world is approaching, they are just projecting their own impending death onto the rest of us? Via Religion News Service:

Harold Camping, the radio preacher who convinced thousands of followers that Jesus would return on May 21, 2011, to usher in the end of the the world, has died, according to a statement released late Monday by his Family Radio network. He was 92. He had fallen at his home on Nov. 30.

Camping first predicted Jesus’ return in 1994, but his most recent forecasts gained national attention through advertisements and the Family Radio network of stations he founded. He warned that “judgment day” would occur in May 2011 and said the world would end in October 2011.

The ministry sold its prominent stations and laid off staffers, with assets dropping from $135 million in 2007 to $29.2 million in 2011.

Ted Cruz’s Father Preaches That His Son Is An “Anointed King” Who Will Bring The “End Time Transfer Of Wealth”

cruzAre you ready to hand all of society’s money over to the Christian leaders whom the heavens have anointed to be “God’s bankers”? More on the fascinating Christian Dominionist theology of pastor Rafael Cruz, father of leading Tea Party politician Ted, via Alternet:

In a sermon last year at an Irving, Texas, megachurch that helped elect Ted Cruz to the U.S. Senate, Cruz’ father Rafael Cruz indicated that his son was among the evangelical Christians who are anointed as “kings” to take control of all sectors of society, an agenda commonly referred to as the “Seven Mountains” mandate, and “bring the spoils of war to the priests”, thus helping to bring about a prophesied “great transfer of wealth”, from the “wicked” to righteous gentile believers.

Cruz spoke of “Kings who are anointed to go to war, win the war, and bring the spoils of war to the priests.” Discussion of the now-notorious speech by Rafael Cruz has missed the fact that Ted Cruz was subsequently blessed and anointed by prominent dominionist pastors, in effect as a “king” in the political/governmental sphere, at a special blessing ceremony at the Marriott Hotel in Des Moines, Iowa, at a July 19th-20th 2013 rally designed to draw pastors into politics.

Watch Creationists Argue That Dragons Were Real Animals

Science textbooks throughout Texas and Louisiana are set to get even more exciting as this dragons-are-real paradigm spreads.  Creationist author Darek Isaacs explains: “The Bible speaks about dragons…in the old scriptures, in the New Testament…Satan is compared to a dragon. Throughout history, on every continent, we see dragons portrayed, these lethal predators. In the Bible, God explains (Satan) to us using dragon imagery…people 2,000 years ago understood had dangerous they were. ”

The Evangelical Political Movement’s Racist Origins

Religion Dispatches explains the actual galvanization of the modern evangelical conservative movement:

The right-wing evangelical movement was not an immediate backlash to Roe v. Wade. The evangelical community, unlike Roman Catholicism, showed little interest in combating abortion until almost 1980.

Although evangelicals were mostly silent on abortion after Roe v. Wade, they were not silent on other political issues. Paul Weyrich, one of the evangelical right’s most influential founders, recalls that the movement initially emerged to defend racially segregated Christian schools from government intrusion:

What galvanized the Christian community was not abortion, school prayer, or the ERA [Equal Rights Amendment]. I am living witness to that because I was trying to get those people interested in those issues and I utterly failed. What changed their minds was Jimmy Carter’s intervention against the Christian schools, trying to deny them tax-exempt status on the basis of so-called de facto segregation.

In other words, as Randall Balmer has succinctly put it: “the religious right of the late twentieth century organized to perpetuate racial discrimination.” Only after the movement was underway did it begin advocacy on abortion.

Over A Million Evangelicals Pledge To Vote For Jesus As Write-In Candidate For U.S. President

Could this really happen? Hordes of disgruntled born-again Christians may effectively throw away their votes by writing in Jesus Christ for president this November, in what will hopefully continue as trend in future elections. Alternet reports:

Candidate “A” is clearly a tool of Satan. But candidate “B” is a tool of Satan too and, if elected president, he’ll suspend the Constitution and implement a theocracy to be run by his satanically-inspired cult. Evangelist Bill Keller, founder of the Internet ministry liveprayer.com, [declares,] “CHRISTIANS MUST TAKE A STAND AND SAY “NO” TO SATAN THIS NOVEMBER!!! Vote for Jesus!”

Keller means it. His website Voting For Jesus claims to have received well over one million pledges from voters who say that they will, on November 6, 2012, cast their votes for the write-in candidacy of Jesus Christ for president of the United States.

More pledges flood in at the rate, during Eastern U.S.
