Extraterrestrials could already be learning about life on Earth. Problem is, the most recent TV signals may be from 2002…

Making contact with aliens: the subject of many a sci-fi story, and a variety of imagined outcomes. Though no one knows what will happen if we encounter intelligent extra-terrestrial life, scientists are dividd on how we should proceed.
SETI, the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence, has been searching for signals from said ETs for many years with no positive results. Of course, there have been interesting signals, but nothing specifically indicative of intelligence.
Scientists from SETI are turning up the volume on a debate that has been raging for several years over whether we should start actively transmitting messages into outer space rather than continuing to passively scan the skies while only leaking weak radiation from our surface activities on the planet. In a press conference at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in San Jose this week, Douglas Vakoch presented the question, and stated that beginning to transmit in an active, directed fashion would be part of humanity “growing up”.
Will Cambodia’s Phnom Penh be the greeting point for interplanetary visitors to Earth? The Phnom Penh Post on the Raelian movement’s setting up base:

The world’s largest UFO cult has reached Cambodia. “People are not [ready] yet, but we will keep trying to spread the message,” said Am Vichet, the head of the Cambodian chapter of the Raelian Movement, which believes advanced alien civilisations created life 25,000 years ago in a laboratory. Its mission on this planet is to prepare humankind for their eventual return.
One of the main goals of Raelism is to build a $20 million embassy for the Elohim, preferably in Israel. Perhaps due to Raelism’s symbol – a swastika enveloped in a Star of David – the movement is banned in the birthplace of Judaism.
So Raelians are looking eastward and, last January, applied to the Council of Ministers in a letter addressed to Prime Minister Hun Sen.
Should be noted that the day after I posted my critique of Carl Sagan’s The Demon Haunted World, in which I defended the work of the late Harvard psychiatrist John E. Mack, Aeon magazine posted an interesting article by Alexa Clay about growing up with him as her surrogate step dad:
“But as a kid largely ignorant of grander sociological forces, aliens were only one thing: scary. They had large black eyes and androgynous forms. And they were real — like ghosts and witches and monsters. In daylight, I was sceptical (the good little rationalist), but night-time brought with it a tide of magical thinking. I used to lie in bed and worry that maybe I would be abducted. I would even make supplicating promises of better behaviour in the hope of bartering with these outsiders — ‘I’ll be good, just leave me alone.’ In my secular progressive household, aliens offered a moral disciplining authority, an invisible spectator to police my actions.… Read the rest
And you thought NSA spying was a big deal…but at least their agents are humanoid. Iran’s leading news agency Farsnews reports the true revelation from the Snowden leaks on their English-language site:

Former National Security Agency (NSA) contractor Edward Snowden revealed documents providing incontrovertible proof that an alien/extraterrestrial intelligence agenda is driving US domestic and international policy, and has been doing so since at least 1945, some media reports said.
Snowden’s documents further confirm, this report says, [aliens’] meetings in 1954 with US President Dwight D. Eisenhower where the “secret regime” currently ruling over America was established.
Most disturbingly, this FSB report warns, is that the [alien] agenda being implemented by the “secret regime” ruling the United States calls for the creation of a global electronic surveillance system meant to hide all true information about their presence here on earth as they enter into what one of Snowden’s documents calls the “final phase” of their end plan for total assimilation and world rule.
During the Cold War, 1961, there were about 50 UFOs in formation flying south from Russia across Europe. The Supreme Allied Command investigated for 3 years and they decided that, with absolute certainty, four species - at least – had been visiting this planet for thousands of years. How many [extraterrestrial] species are there? I used to think between two and twelve, but the reports that I’ve been getting from sources are that there are about 80 different species…"Tall Whites"…"Short Greys"…and some of them look just like us and you wouldn’t know if you walked past one on the street. They come from various places. Different star systems – the Pleadis, Zeta Reticuli and several others…but in the past few months I have met [those] who made me aware that there are some in our own star system.

UFO sightings are reported all over the planet by thousands of people. The real question is whether UFO’s are interstellar vehicles visiting Earth? Most UFO sightings can be classified as misidentified aircraft, planets or other aerial phenomena, but not all of them. A small percentage of UFO sightings can’t be explained by any known aircraft or natural phenomena.
Over the years real UFO sightings have reported simultaneous electromagnetic disturbances. The UFO Detector is designed to sense these electromagnetic disturbances and signal their detection flashing 16 LED’s simultaneously and beeping.

CryptoZooNews on Lloyd Pye, who died earlier this week and who argued for a human-alien connection based on a bizarre skull found in the Mexican desert:

Lloyd Anthony Pye is best known for his promotion of the Starchild skull, which he claims is the relic of a human-alien hybrid although DNA tests have shown it is from a human male. He also promote[d] the ideas that cryptozoological creatures such as Bigfoot are real and that aliens intervened to create life on Earth.
In addition to authoring books, Pye made television appearances on The Learning Channel, National Geographic Channel, Extra, Animal Planet, and Richard & Judy in the United Kingdom.
In the late 1990s, Pye obtained a curiously shaped skull from a couple in El Paso, Texas that he believes is an alien-human hybrid and proof that humans are descended from extraterrestrial beings he calls “terraformers”. DNA tests show that the skull is from a human male.
I’m glad that at least some governments are thinking about this. Russia Today reports:
Despite being called Russia’s space troops, they are not ready to deal with invasions by aliens from outer space, according to a statement by a Russian defense official.
In a surprising move, an apparently serious journalist raised this question of extraterrestrial security during a media conference at the Titov Main Test and Space Systems Control Center near Moscow, Russia’s main satellite control center.
“So far we are not capable of that. We are unfortunately not ready to fight extraterrestrial civilizations,” the center’s deputy chief Sergey Berezhnoy explained.
Titov space center, which is run by Russia’s Aerospace Defense Troops, controls around 80 percent of the country’s satellite fleet, both military and civilian. Russia’s space troops, in their current form, were created in 2011 through the integration of several military branches responsible for…control of outer space.
The Geopolitics of Alien Intervention
…Or a question of whether you feel like you’re being watched?
By Micah Hanks
If aliens were to invade planet earth, what might be their reason for doing so? Also, how might they do it, and would we be able to defend ourselves?
Admittedly, we see this scenario quite often in films, and it’s almost always the result of the same, predictable sorts of patterns we’ve watched ourselves fulfill throughout history as humans, super-imposed onto the silver screen. These involve mean-assed aliens that consider planet Earth a disease-ridden mudball crawling with parasites; we, of course, are those parasites, and the aliens arrive as intergalactic exterminators to save our otherwise lovely terrestrial landscape from its bothersome residents. Another popular one: they’ve destroyed their home planet, and now the alien squatters have arrived to establish themselves like cosmic family members going through hard times, begging to crash on the couch for just a few weeks.… Read the rest
