Gary Johnson Quiet on Campaign Cash Questions

Gary Johnson, 2012’s Libertarian Party presidential candidate and former New Mexico Governor, recently hosted a post-election AMA

(Ask Me Anything) on Reddit and things didn’t go, perhaps, quite as planned. His top question (receiving 180 “up votes” … 117 more than the second most popular question) was ignored by the former candidate:

“I’ve read your campaign manager used $2.3 million of the $2.5 million you raised to pay his own company. If I donated money to your campaign, where do I write for a refund?”

Parapolitical reported on the situation:

“Johnson’s campaign ended 2012  $1,134,602 in debt of which $1,051,637 is owed to the consulting company owned by the campaign manager presumably responsible for accruing that debt … the debt is on top of millions already paid to the firm. Of roughly $2.5 million raised and spent by Johnson prior to the election, more than $2.3 million of his supporters donations and federal matching funds were disbursed to campaign manager Nielson’s company.”

There’s also the matter of a lawsuit filed by a former Ron Paul fundraiser who went to work for the campaign and since claims he was stiffed on his invoices while the campaign manager’s company was paid “first and in full.” Still, Johnson appears unfazed by the clamor for information about the opaque millions.

Gary Johnson: ‘Politics Be Damned’ Running to Win As Libertarian Presidential Candidate (Video)

Reports Alicia M. Cohn on The Hill:
Libertarian presidential nominee Gary Johnson said Tuesday night that he is running as a third-party candidate because he has a message to convey: "Politics be damned." "The 'pie in the sky' notion" is to win the race, Johnson told The Daily Show. He also noted that he'll appear on ballots alongside President Obama and Mitt Romney in all 50 states in November. "Lots of opportunity to change the world a little bit," he said, describing his campaign. "I have seen nothing but increased crowds, increased appetite for what I have to say." Comedy Central host Jon Stewart described being a libertarian as two halves of a friendship necklace — half Republican, half Democrat, according to the policies that traditionally appeal to each part — coming together to make a whole heart. Johnson agreed.

Ron Paul Scored Higher Than President Obama on the ACLU Report Card

This is embarrassing for anyone who voted for "Hope and Change" ... and the highest score goes to former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson, who was not even allowed to debate in televised debates. So reports Bob Egelko in the San Fransisco Chronicle:
The highest overall rating went to former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson, a Republican-turned-Libertarian, who opposes the Patriot Act and — unlike Obama — supports the right of gays and lesbians to marry. Among the leading Republican candidates, libertarian-leaning Rep. Ron Paul also got a higher score than Obama despite low ratings in several categories.

Republican Gary Johnson Running For President In 2012

johnsonprez The Raw Story reports:
Former Gov. Gary Johnson (R-NM) announced Thursday morning that he's running for president in 2012, adding a fresh libertarian perspective to a field of candidates touting their social conservative credentials. The ex-governor is perhaps best known in recent years as an outspoken opponent of the drug war who believes marijuana should be legalized. He's in favor of same sex marriage, saying it would reflect America's commitment to "freedom" and "liberty." And he wants to get out of Iraq and Afghanistan. Johnson, a long-shot at best for the GOP nomination, first made the announcement on Twitter, following it with a series of tweets previewing his campaign platform. "Ready for smaller government? More liberty and personal freedom," he tweeted. "Right now, we need to fix the fiscal mess. The writing of a financial collapse is on the wall. Balance the federal budget tomorrow."
