Pastor Calls to Outlaw Homosexuality and Punish LGBTQ People with Hard Labor

This is just getting ridiculous. I think these whack-job fundamentalists have simply become parodies of themselves. Do they even believe the hateful rhetoric they spew?

via The Raw Story:

A pastor who uses his Internet platform to teach political lessons based on conservative Christian ideology has proposed a constitutional amendment to punish LGBT people for “ten years in prison at hard labor.”

In a video posted to his PreachingPolitics.com website last month that was flagged by the Good As You blog on Monday, Pastor Michael V. Williams asserts that Christians have been “increasingly tolerant” of gay people over the last 50 years.

“Whereas homosexuality used to be a felony in every state — referred to as sodomy — it has now been decriminalized, and homosexuality is allowed to be openly expressed in public,” he notes. “While Christians are becoming increasingly tolerant of homosexuals, homosexuals are becoming increasingly intolerant of us.”

Philatelists’ Delight? The Gay Bondage Stamps of Finland

You have to hand it to the Finns: they may have singlehandedly created a whole new generation of philatelists. Slate reports on the new gay bondage stamps designed by Tom of Finland:

The United States has some pretty cool stamps and, once the Harvey Milk stamp is released next month, at least one commemorating an openly LGBTQ American. But it’s difficult to imagine a future where America’s stamps are as amazingly, graphically gay as Finland’s. This fall, the country will begin selling stamps that feature the “confident and proud homoeroticism” of Tom of Finland, an artist renowned as “beyond question the most influential creator of gay pornographic illustration.”

Itella Posti Oy, the Finnish equivalent of U.S.P.S., boasts that Tom of Finland—also known as Touko Laaksonen—is “considered one of the most well-known Finnish artists around the world”:

His emphatically masculine homoerotic drawings have attained iconic status in their genre and had an influence on, for instance, pop culture and fashion.

Queer Christian Response to News About Fred Phelps Sr’s Health

How should the LGBT community respond to the (eventual) death of Fred Phelps?

PIC: WBC (PD)

PIC: WBC (PD)

William S. Burnett writes:

We’ll leave aside the question of the relationship between God and the “fags.” Using people’s funerals is a horrible way to communicate your beliefs to a wider audience. I don’t personally think that’s what was meant by “freedom of speech” or “freedom of assembly” in our Constitution. But I’m neither a Constitutional lawyer nor a judge, so I’ll leave that alone. I’ll just say that the expression of their hate knew no boundaries! In the Catholic community, we would call that “pastoral insensitivity” at the least; but I think “pastoral insensitivity” is a big understatement!

Over the years, I had been incredibly incensed by Fred Phelps, Sr. and his clan, both as a queer and as a Christian. As a queer, I was incensed because I was the primary target of their vehemence; and, because in their hate, they were trying to project an ugly, evil image of me that was far removed from who I was.

Stay Calm & Get Stoned: Trans Woman Confronts Bigot Councilman

Pamela Raintree – Hero

Pamela Raintree is a trans woman from Shreveport, La. who stood before Ron Webb – a city councilman who was trying to repeal an anti-discrimination ordinance for LGBT citizens – and dared him to stone her after quoting scripture at him:

So Raintree stood before Webb, lifting up her rock, and said, “Leviticus 20:13 states: ‘If a man lie also with mankind as he lieth with a woman, they shall surely put him to death.’ I brought the first stone, Mr. Webb, in case that your Bible talk isn’t just a smoke screen for personal prejudices.”

Bravo, Ms. Raintree, for daring the fervency of this bigot’s faith! And the look on Webb’s face when he realizes that his bluff has been called? Brilliant! This could be a great tactic for other activists to use in upcoming court cases that deal with similar issues…am kinda surprised that no one else thought to do so before now.… Read the rest

Obama, Biden Welcome Pope Francis / FEMEN Protests

In 2012, POUS said "I think same-sex couples should be able to get married" on "Good Morning America." Then in the 2013 State of the Union, "restore the basic bargain that built this country... get ahead... no matter who you love." In February a Vatican Archbishop defined marriage "only between a man and a woman" and likened same sex marriage to a "sick egalitarianism." NARAL had endorsed Obama's 2012 reelection, describing him as "pro-choice" on NARAL.org. On Nov 7th, Reuters reported on a statement to the president-elect about promoting "a culture of life" from the Vatican. It's perhaps unsurprising that activist group, FEMEN–which identifies as an "international women's movement" based in Ukraine–protested in Vatican City on Tuesday (from RT.com). A video shows a protester shouting "Pope No More!"...

“Ex-Gay” Pastor Arrested for Sexually Assaulting Male Clients

This pastor has an unusual method of “laying on hands”…

Via Raw Story:

A Minnesota pastor has been arrested for sexually assaulting two gay men while counseling them about their “homosexual tendencies.”

Charging documents released this week indicated that 55-year-old Rev. Ryan J. Muehlhauser was accused of eight felony counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct on at least two men during sessions about how to “escape the gay lifestyle,” according to KARE.

Muehlhauser was a pastor at Lakeside Christian Church in Cambridge, but met the men through Outpost Ministries, which claims it was “formed over 30 years ago to meet the needs of men and women making the decision to break away from gay life.”

The first victim told authorities that Muehlhauser had “blessed” him by cupping his genitals. The pastor required the victim to arouse himself for “spiritual strength” and later instructed the man to get naked and masturbate in front of him, calling it “spiritual guidance.”

Can Porn Be Feminist?

Feminist PornMaura Kelly, reporting on the Feminist Porn awards, from the Daily Beast:

To kick off the annual Feminist Porn Awards on Wednesday night, adult filmmaker Buck Angel screened his documentary Sexing the Transman XXX to a cheering crowd at a University of Toronto lecture hall. In the movie, Angel talks to female-to-male transsexuals, like himself, about their sex-change experiences. Then he films them masturbating, with and without dildos.

Welcome to feminist pornography, a genre of sex films designed to appeal to people who feel put off by mainstream porn. In the world of feminist porn, women come in all shapes, sizes, and sexual orientations. The actresses don’t necessarily conform to the typical big-boobed, tiny-waisted ideal; some sport armpit hair. They look more like the average woman walking down the street or standing in line at Whole Foods than “porn stars.”

Angel’s documentary is one of 41 films from eight countries being celebrated at the annual awards event, which features several days of screenings and presentations, including an awards ceremony, held last night.

iPhone App To ‘Cure’ Homosexuality

Straight_And_Supportive_FlagNo longer want to be gay in the 21st century? There’s an app for that. While it’s hard to believe that anyone would buy this to be used seriously, it’s encouraging to see how many people were so quick to demand it’s removal. Over 90,000 people have already signed a petition against it. The Atlantic reports:

Gay rights activists are outaged — and rightfully so. More than 90,000 people have signed a petition hosted on Change.org demanding that Apple remove an application from the iTunes Store that promises to deliver “freedom from homosexuality through the power of Jesus Christ.”

Developed by Exodus International, an Orlando, Florida-based Christian organization, the application claims to be “a useful resource for men, women, parents, students, and ministry leaders.” But Truth Wins Out, a nonprofit organization that defends the LGBT community against anti-gay misinformation campaigns, finds the app offensive at best. “Exodus’ message is hateful and bigoted,” the petition states.
