The Hypnotikon Psychedelic Music Festival is Happening This Weekend

hypnotikonIf you happen to be lucky enough to live in Seattle and are planning on being incredibly high or possibly tripping balls this weekend, might I recommend the second installment of the Hypnotikon psychedelic music festival? Fun fact: the origins of the sort of spiritual writing I’ve been doing on Disinfo for the last several years actually date back to pieces I was writing for musician and visual artist Aubrey Nehring’s Portable Shrines website about 5 years ago. Back then, Nehring and his friends in the utterly brilliant band, Midday Veil, were disappointed with the fact that Seattle was lagging behind other west coast cities like Portland and San Francisco in terms of any sort of cohesive psych rock scene. In an attempt to change that, they organized the two day trance freak out, Escalator Fest. Eventually Nehring (who is doing visuals for Hypnotikon) decided booking festivals wasn’t really his cup of tea, but thankfully local electronic/psych beat writer Dave Segal and his lovely/talented girlfriend Valerie Calano (DJ Veins and Explorateur respectively) seized the mantle and created Hypnotikon, which saw its first incarnation last year.… Read the rest

Remember Child, You Are A Universe Within Yourself

MiddayVeil_SubterraneanRitual2Another super freaky video by my favorite purveyors of psych rock goodness, Midday Veil. All the lyrics are basically a riff on the classic Occultist mantra: As Above, So Below: Remember child: you are a universe within yourself All the sun and moon and stars above all have their parallels Inside each microcosmic vessel of your human cells You are the alpha, the omega, heaven and hell  Make sure you watch the entire thing. The whole planets colliding motif is awesome, but when Emily's disembodied eyes and mouth enter the picture and impart this ancient message to the viewer, things get all kinds of trippy. Oh, and they're about to embark on a brief West Coast tour which starts tomorrow. If you haven't seen these cats live, check it.

Midday Veil’s Deliciously Witchy New Video (with Interview and Tour Details)

Yep, one the cooler things I've ever seen, and hey, I just interviewed Emily Pothast and Steven Miller who are the freakish brainchildren behind the whole thing: Thad: I found the concept particularly fascinating, because one of the themes that has been interpenetrating my psychic life as of late has been that of female energy consuming and feeding off the masculine — as if the previous era of humanity has shifted and now it’s time for the sacred feminine to devour the dark war mongering energy that “mankind” has created. Terence Mckenna, Whitley Strieber, and others have described encountering entities that have an almost insectile-multi-eyed-telepathic-hive-mind characteristics. I don’t know if you’re up on insect sexuality, but the feminine typically reigns supreme in that micro-verse. There are no King Bees, if you catch my drift. Thoughts? EP: Oh wow. Well, I mentioned the inspiration of mystery religions, myths that explore the inner workings of sex and death, which definitely relate to the core processes of nature. These myths are at the root of Christianity, but while the basic mechanism of the dying/resurrecting godman is alive and well in the character of Christ, the “feminine” and erotic aspects of the eternal that were also present in early versions of the myth have been considered taboo for most of Western history.

This Movie Was Filmed in the Fifth Dimension

The title to this was something that was communicated to me while I was ganj-i-tating during the witching hour last Sunday Morning, accompanied by a feeling of supreme recognition. The movie they’re referring to is our lives. Friend me for magick updates on Facebook, this is the sort of odd shit that happens. Are cute pug puppy pictures coming soon? Of course they are.

The other week I decided that so as to stay away from the net a bit like I normally do on the weekends, I’d condense my psychic updates to a weekend edition entitled The Weekend in Sorcery. First weekend was interesting. The second was fucking bananas- (edited it a bit to post here, so keep that in mind, but otherwise, read on true believers):

Weekend of January 8-10, 2013 (year of the witch):

This is a rich. Went to the OM show on Friday, which was super packed.… Read the rest
