Two lifelong Oklahomans have effectively halted construction on an active work site for TransCanada’s Keystone XL tar sands pipeline in Bennington, Oklahoma.

Eric Whelan, 26, who grew up in McLoud, Okla., has ascended 40 feet into the air in an aerial blockade that began at dawn this morning.

Gwen Ingram of Luther, Okla., 56, has locked herself to heavy machinery and shut down the construction site.

Today’s event marks the fourth act of civil disobedience by Great Plains Tar Sands Resistance and comes in the wake of the disastrous tar sands pipeline spill in Mayflower, Arkansas.  For the last three weeks, over 300,000 gallons of tar sands diluted bitumen have spilled into a residential neighborhood and local waterways.

“Keystone XL sounded like a bad idea from the beginning,” explained Whelan. “The Mayflower spill proves that we shouldn’t be trusting these multi-national corporations, like Exxon or TransCanada, because every spill further exposes their criminal incompetence.

Police Say Oklahoma Man’s Fiery Death May Have Been Spontaneous Combustion

Is this possible? Oklahoma police say it is. Local KFSM5 reports:

The Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office ruled out homicide in the death of a Muldrow man, but has not ruled out spontaneous human combustion following the state medical examiner’s findings a day later. “It’s very unusual and it’s bizarre and I can’t explain it,” said Sheriff Ron Lockhart.

Preliminary autopsy results were released on the 65-year-old man the sheriff believes may have died from spontaneous human combustion. Lockhart said the victim may have burned for 10 hours.

Lockhart said the victim was an alcoholic and an avid smoker. “We weren’t saying the guy just busted into flames, there’s gotta have an ignition source and what we’re looking at is an ignition source such as lighting a cigarette and catches himself on fire, sucks the flames down his throat, and falls down,” Lockhart said.

Breaking God’s spel?

Users of magick are pretty hot on the idea that the bedrock of their reality manipulation techniques are linguistic. If words are thought control and if you want to become a good spell caster it’s vital you brush up on your articulacy. That includes the basics such as, err, spelling. So, if The Gods really are magick users who manifest their intent with language I suspect this story will annoy them a little more than their followers here suspect. From Oklahoma’s NewsOK:

A Ten Commandments monument is up on the grounds of the state Capitol, but it didn’t pass spell check.

“Remember the Sabbeth day, to keep it holy,” reads one.

“Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidseruent,” reads the last one.

Rep. Mike Ritze, whose family paid for the monument that was put up Thursday, said the monument company has been contacted and will correct the errors to the words Sabbath and maidservant.
