Race Riot of 1919 in Omaha — The Lynching of Will Brown

Americans across the nation were reactive to the wave of riots of 1967 which killed over 150 people, called the worst rioting this country saw up to then. The red summer riots of 1919 killed 150 people in individual cities. A dozen cities burned over the summer. I find it interesting that anarchists and white nationalists ganged together not just to burn several black ghettos in the north, but also to kill police officers.

Omaha is only one example of a collection of insurrections:

In this video Luke Rudkowski of WeAreChange talks to Sophia Lierenfeld who found herself at the annual pumpkin festival this year in New Hampshire as riots broke out. Why Riot?

A thought provoking must read on a largely misunderstood topic:

Via Ultra

So I’m writing here for simple reasons: to defend the riot as a general tactic and to explain why one might engage in a riot. By this I mean to defend and explain not just the window breaking, not just “non-injurious violence,” and certainly not just the media spectacle it generates, but the riot itself—that dangerous, ugly word that sounds so basically criminal and which often takes (as in London in 2011) a form so fundamentally unpalatable for civil society that it can only be understood as purely irrational, without any logic, and without possible defense.

Via Beyond the Mainstream:

You’d be forgiven for knowing very little about the unrest in Ukraine – the violence, the rioting on the streets, the armed protesters storming government buildings amidst plumes of thick black smoke rising from makeshift barricades. Most of the public have once again been Beibered by the mainstream media – the arrest of this precocious, spoilt physical embodiment of crass corporate culture proving newsworthy enough for an MSNBC host to interrupt an interview with a member of Congress discussing the true scale of NSA spying.

In this climate of superficial distractions and media inanity, you’d be equally forgiven for not really knowing why there is political unrest in Ukraine. Most of the explanations for the violence offered by the mainstream media present the information in simplistic sound-bytes – talking points without the relevant wider political and historical context which renders current events coherent.… Read the rest
