Armed Teacher Training Program Launches In 15 States

The classroom arms race is on. ThinkProgress reports:

An Ohio gun owners’ group is launching an “Armed Teacher Training Program” to instruct teachers and school staff on how to shoot off firearms in the classroom.

Perhaps at the outlandish suggestion of the National Rifle Association, who last month called for armed guards in every school as a response to the tragedy at Sandy Hook elementary, such programs are popping up around the country.

As of Wednesday, the Armed Teacher Training Program has attracted more than 600 applicants from several states including Ohio, Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and West Virginia. “We knew this would be popular, but the response has exceeded out expectations,” said Jim Irvine, Chairman of the Buckeye Firearms Foundation.

Want to raise money for your preferred candidate at the election why not hold a machine gun social? From WLOS ABC 13

The TEA Party hosted a ”machine gun social” in Brevard on Saturday.  Supporters paid $25-$50 to fire an automatic weapon.  The TEA Party says the money raised will be used to pay for political advertising.  The fundraiser caused some controversy.  People opposed to the fundraiser said the ”machine gun social” was in bad taste and made the town look bad.

Republican Peter King To Introduce Legislation Banning Firearms Within 1,000 Feet Of A Government Official

71124705CS006_NYC_Police_CoWill it soon be a crime to be armed in the presence of a government official? A strict new gun-control measure is slated to be introduced in Congress by a surprising proponent, Huffington Post writes:

Rep. Peter King, a Republican from New York, is planning to introduce legislation that would make it illegal to bring a gun within 1,000 feet of a government official, according to a person familiar with the congressman’s intentions.

King is chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee. The proposed law follows the Saturday shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) and a federal judge that left six dead, including the judge, and 14 wounded.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, one of the nation’s most outspoken gun-control advocates, is backing King’s measure and is expected to put the weight of his pro-gun-control organization behind it.

It is already illegal in the U.S. to carry a gun within 1,000 feet of a school.

Florida Truck Dealership Gives Out Free AK-47s With Vehicle Purchases

truck_ak47 Ah, America, where machine guns are dispensed like party favors. Via Aol News:

A truck dealership in Florida is firing up sales with the promise of a rapid-fire machine gun.

Customers have been streaming into Nations Trucks in Sanford, near Orlando, purchasing two dozen vehicles since the sale campaign began on Veterans Day last week. Each new truck owner also walks out with a free AK-47. “We’ve tripled our business,” general sales manager Nick Ginetta told AOL News. “We knew it would be controversial, but it’s been a phenomenal response.”

An image of the semiautomatic rifle is taped to the showroom’s window to lure shoppers. Buyers receive a $400 voucher good for one Kalashnikov at Shoot Straight, a weapons dealer with several locations in the Sunshine State.

All prospective gun owners must meet state and federal gun-control laws, but Ginetta has still drawn fire from anti-gun activists and alarmed neighbors.
