Sexts on Film

Sendmeyoursexts.com is the latest project by documentary filmmaker Eileen Yaghoobian. Fueled by the modern day phenomenon of sexting and Yaghoobian’s own experience with this, the website encourages people from all over the world to share these exchanges with an artistic twist. For a nominal fee, the encounters are turned into short videos which use the sexts as scripts. Yaghoobian’s project toes the line between performance art, soft porn, and film.

They are funny to watch and capture both the kitsch and awkwardness of the sexting experience; however they also point to how widespread this practice is. Yaghoobian’s videos consider the role of public and private space and what this means in relationship to sex and intimacy in the digital age. Sendmeyoursexts.com offers people an online platform to explore these experiences in a different context. Send Me Your Sexts: Transforming texts into on-screen turn ons

NSFW! There’s nothing explicit shown in the video below, but it’s probably not a good idea to play this while at work – especially if you don’t have headphones.

poster_cumSend Me Your Sexts is a new service that will transform your dirty text messages into on-screen action for $80. Most of the names are changed (unless both parties are willing to be named), and the result is surprisingly fascinating. I think it can be running on both those lines at the same time.”

The Lisa and Nicholas encounter is by far my favorite, if only for the BNI line, which I can’t stop laughing about.… Read the rest

Will Apple End Sexting As We Know It?

tigerwoods3aIn more sad news for the youth of today, Apple has been awarded a patent for technology that alters text messages to remove objectionable content, i.e., an anti-sexting device. Our friends at TechCrunch report:

Today the US Patent and Trademark Office approved a patent Apple filed in 2008, which, get this, prevents users from sending or receiving “objectionable” text messages. The patent’s official title? “Text-based communication control for personal communication device.”

Ladies and gentlemen this means that Jobs and company have just sealed the deal on a solution to the number one fear of parents across America, kids sending “unauthorized texts.” As it looks like whatever algorithm or control the system is comprised of will basically censor the transmission of R-rated content on iPhones, is this the first sign of the end of “Sexting” as we know it?

Yes and no, as those interesting in “Sexting” will probably find some clever workaround to express how much they want to bang, screw, hit it or a myriad of other words that don’t immediately set off the censorship sensors.
