Sinaloa Cartel Owns Chicago’s Drug Market

345129Chicago’s local gangs have powerful competition: The Sinaloa Cartel. The organization is considered the most powerful drug trafficking group in the world. They’re highly organized, heavily armed and utterly ruthless. Cartel leader Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman has made Forbes’ list of the most powerful people in the world since 2009. Chicago is an ideal hub for anyone looking to control the United States drug trade, much like Mexico’s Ciudad Juarez – A notorious Cartel battleground over which the Sinaloa Cartel waged a bloody but ultimately successful war against its rivals.

Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, the kingpin of the Sinaloa Cartel, owns the Chicago-area drug game.

Sinaloa members have embedded themselves in the city’s robust Hispanic population, employing tens of thousands of local gang members to push all kinds of drugs in the streets.

And Illinois’ highways allow for distribution across the Midwest, making it a hub for North America’s staggering meth problem.

Closing the Book on the Tijuana Cartel

The Arellano-Felix phase of the Tijuana cartel may be about to begin it’s last chapter. USA today reports that the last brother of the notorious drug gang has now been extradited to the United States by Mexico.

Mexico has extradited the last brother of the Arellano-Felix cartel to San Diego, ending a 20-year investigation of the notorious drug gang, the Justice Department says.

Eduardo Arellano-Felix, 55, was sent to San Diego to face charges of racketeering, money laundering and narcotics trafficking. He is due in Federal court September 4, the Justice Department’s news release says.

At one time the Arellano Felix brothers were the major power in Tijuana near the San Diego border. The Tijuana cartel is a faction that was formerly a part of Miguel Gallardo’s Guadalajara cartel alongside Chapo Guzman, current leader of the Sinaloa cartel. After Gallardo’s extradition to the United States to serve the rest of his life sentence in the Federal Super Maximum Security Penitentiary in Colorado, The Guadalajara cartel splintered into the Tijuana group who controlled narco traffick along the California border up and into San Diego while the Sinaloa Federation took control of the large opium and marijuana production operations in Sinaloa state, as well as much of the trafficking business in Colombian cocaine produced and sold at wholesale prices by the various Bogota operations that sprang up after the 1993 death of Pablo Escobar and the disintegration of the Medellin cartel into warring factions.… Read the rest

US Drug Czar Woefully Out of Touch With Reality

At the end of July, US Drug Czar Gil Kerlikowske announced that in the potemkin villages he visits, it looks like the War on Drugs is working. As the Tico Times Reports:

[Kerlikowske] The drug czar, who has more than 37 years of law enforcement under his belt – including stints as police chief in Seattle (Washington), Buffalo (New York) and various cities in Florida – said “the security threat Colombia and the United States faced in 1999 is gone, and it has been accomplished without offsetting those results elsewhere. These lessons provide a model for dealing with challenges throughout the world, particularly in Central America.”

The knowledge that the threat from cartel violence is over in Bogota and that the FARC is severely weakened in the jungles of Peru and Bolivia must be great comfort to the dozens murdered in the two weeks since he made that statement.… Read the rest
