Bill Maher On The Dangers Of The Rally To Restore Sanity

"If you're going to have a rally where hundreds of thousands of people show up, you might as well go ahead and make it about something." Bill Maher lambasts the Jon Stewart/Stephen Colbert "Rally to Restore Sanity" as misguided in its call for "moderation" at a time when clear-headed people should be standing up firmly for what's right. Right on, I say.

OBEY: Rallies Have Always Been Used to Manipulate the Masses

Rallies Have Always Been Used to Manipulate the Masses

Rallies Have Always Been Used to Manipulate the Masses

I finally saw the 1988 movie “They Live” today and realized what Peter Chamberlin is saying with his blog title‘There Are No Sunglasses’. I also saw a little of the Stewart and Colbert sanity/fear rally and you don’t need the sunglasses to see through it.

The lefty counterpoint to the righty Glenn Beck hijacked Tea Party typesThe lefties may be a little more fun but no less propagandizing. It’s breaking us down into two groups that oppose each other as if that’s all there is.

But most of us don’t actually fit into this false duplicity. We’re the ones who don’t like Stewart and ObamaBeck and Palin. Using conventional terms we as individuals are a mix of conservative, liberal, moderate, radical or what ever you want to call it. Sort of ‘mongrels’ that don’t fit what the media wants us to be.… Read the rest

Celebrities showed up. The tally, thus far: The Roots, John Legend, Tony Bennett, Sheryl Crow, Kid Rock, R2-D2, Cat Stevens, and Ozzy Osbourne. [Caucus/NYT, Gawker, Daily Intel]

The signs were creative.

Stephen Colbert To Testify Before Congress

First Elmo, then Kevin Costner, and now Stephen Colbert gets to testify before Congress at an immigration hearing entitled "Protecting America's Harvest." With Colbert testifying in Congress and Jon Stewart's "Rally to Return Sanity," the lines between politics and political comedy are increasingly blurred. From New York Daily News:
It's no joke — Stephen Colbert will testify before Congress. The Comedy Central host will head to Capitol Hill and appear before a House Judiciary subcommittee for a hearing on immigration called "Protecting America's Harvest." Colbert will speak alongside United Farm Workers President Arturo Rodriguez. The comedian spent a day working at a farm in New York last month after Rodriguez came on the show to discuss UFW's "Take Our Jobs" campaign, which challenges the view that illegal immigrants are stealing jobs from Americans.

Stephen Colbert Talks Aliens with Vatican Astronomer

Matt Tobey writes on CC Insider:
Are there aliens out there? And if there are, do they have their own Martian Jesus or do they all just automatically go to hell until they come to Earth and accept ours? I don't know, but it's nice to see the Catholic church is finally catching up with the Scientologists. Our operating thetans need all the help we can get in the battle against Xenu.
