The Trautonium: A Forgotten Instrument

It’s safe to say that nearly anyone cognizant of the existence of the Trautonium can easily fit under the umbrella category of “eccentric.” Yet, this electronic instrument, invented in 1929 Berlin, is a medium for sublime human expression. Before synthesizers and computers usurped what can more aptly be called today’s “music assembling,” musical instruments that used electricity but still required dynamic human input and live performance had a brief but profound era in the 20th century.

Formal compositions and even orchestral concertos have been written for this instrument, among which is Paul Hindemith‘sLangsames Stück und Rondo für Trautonium.” Youtube user Ghost Money also has several interesting improvisations using the organic but other-worldly sounds of the Trautonium.

Perhaps the only person that can be said to have mastered the Trautonium was Oskar Sala (1910-2002) who pioneered the instrument’s capabilities and applications.  Among Sala’s credits are Hitchcock’s The Birds, where he created the sounds of the birds among a variety of other short films. … Read the rest

The Last Thing They Ever Saw

You’ve probably heard the old wives’ tale of ‘The Image In A Dead Man’s Eye’ – the idea that the eye retains the last thing it sees before death.

…Isn’t it odd how obvious superstitions sometimes turn out to be completely true?


‘Optography’, or the art of recovering the last image seen by an eye, is a very real thing with a long and strange history:

“They” Told Me to Write This

Who are “they”? Good question. Grey Aliens? Beings from the Sirius star system? Harvey the white rabbit? Fuck if I know. They appear to refract differently through the nervous system of everyone who comes into contact with them. I actually started referring to them as hynagogic light entities after they started showing up in my peripheral sleep states. The whole scene started crackling right after I began performing magick. I summoned them and they came, rebuilding the structure of my soul on a near nightly basis—which often felt like computer updates being rapidly downloaded into my psyche. Seriously, that’s how it went down from my perspective, I started doing magick and they started installing the sorcerer software pack into the very fiber of my being.
